Love Life Resolution by Ashlee Chu

New Year’s Resolution time invites many exciting changes for people of every walk of life. Though being on time to appointments and eating healthier are both perfectly adequate goals to strive toward, maybe something a bit more challenging should be considered. If the New Year is to be about enhancing life for the better, then focusing on one’s love life should not come second or last on the list of New Year’s Resolutions.

The love life that will always need the most focus is our personal relationship with Christ. To some it may seem silly or obvious; however, His love is the one that never falters, and His Word never changes. So, it only seems appropriate that our love life with Him be the first to work on for 2011. When our personal relationship with Christ is a priority, all other relationships and life situations fall into place. Life will properly orient itself because the proper “relationship foundation” has been restored and made a priority. Making Christ the front-man of every relationship and friendship will provide new opportunities and challenges to enhance the overall person.

For those who are single, this resolution still very much applies. Pastor Chris Harrell suggests, “Be single with a purpose. Always be looking to improve your character and work on you being the best you possible.” Being single with a purpose means to focus oneself on the changes and habits that will bring joy to God and bring a higher quality of you to the surface. Having a love life does not mean that there needs to be a boyfriend or girlfriend; a love life can have Christ as the significant other. Being single grants more time to focus on goals, passions, and allows more of His love to be presented amidst every opportunity.

This particular resolution is not easy– it’s not meant to be. Sure it’s easy to love God, but it’s hard to truly follow Him, let alone put constant effort into a relationship with Him. It is definitely worth it though. The love life resolution is to help let go of your past, sort through your baggage, and focus on His love as the task today and every day that follows.
