When it comes to cooking meals, I love easy and quick recipes with a handful of ingredients. Whereas my husband loves making layered, complicated, gourmet meals, I am a girl of simplicity. Less is more in my book (Although I sure do enjoy the fruit of his labor!). At the same time, I want it to taste good and fill us up.

That’s always how I go into meals … simple, quick, easy, yummy, and filling. To be honest, that’s not always the easiest task, but I’ve come up with something that fits the bill perfectly. They are baked Italian hoagies, and they are one of my favorite concoctions.

Inspired by a local, hole-in-the-wall favorite restaurant of mine from my tiny hometown of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, called OIP, which stands for Original Italian Pizza, I wanted something flavorful and reminiscent of my favorite dish. Their baked Italian hoagies are still untouchable and way better than mine (could be the fact that they make their own homemade bread J), but since I am hundreds of miles away from being able to snag one whenever I want, this helps satiate my cravings when they hit.

There are just a handful of ingredients that aren’t very expensive. It takes about 10 minutes to make. And it is a dish where fresh meets savory meets filling. Win. Win. Win.

Without further ado, here is the recipe for my super easy Baked Italian Hoagies. I hope you enjoy them! Let me know what you think!

Baked Italian Hoagies

Yields: At least 6 hoagies

Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • ¼ lb. Hard Salami
  • ¼ lb. Deli Pepperoni
  • ¼ lb. Black Forest Ham
  • ¼ lb. Provolone Cheese
  • 1 Bag of Italian Hoagie Rolls
  • 1 Bag of Shredded Lettuce
  • 1 – 2 Tomatoes, sliced and halved
  • Fat Free Italian Dressing

Directions:

  • Grab as many Italian hoagie rolls as you need depending on how many you are making. Pull them open, and place the pepperoni, salami, black forest ham, and provolone cheese inside. You can put as much or as little as you like, but I do about 2 slices of each.

  • Stick those in your toaster over just until the roll begins to brown and the cheese is melted.
  • Pull out, put on a plate, and fill with tomato slice halves and lettuce. Top with a drizzle of Italian dressing.italianhoagie3
